TRAINING PROGRAMS:
A series of training programs are offered for various
educational opportunities.
APPRENTICESHIP
Jo-Ann Wilson has had extensive professional work in education, and has learned that people have different learning styles. Some learn better in a private or semi-private relationship, and may feel
educationally saturated after a week or more of
intensive study. This program allows the trainee to study with Jo-Ann
privately or semi-privately for one to four days and to focus on areas
of the program that they feel necessary to support their practice. Therefore, Wilson and Meagher
Sportstherapy offers the apprentice the best educational and cost effective
mechanism to learn the Meagher method.
The bulk of
the program consists of hands on work with many
competition horses and/or
amateur human athletes and some human clients with
chronic structural and neurological
problems. The apprentice will be able to engage in
feedback and questions with trainers,
riders, human clients,etc. The program
occurs within a real-life situation under
Jo-Ann's direction and teaching. Trainees may return from
their own practice at any time to the apprenticeship
to renew or expand their clinical
work. Working at competitions is possible.
Since this program is designed to meet the individual
needs of the apprentice, an apprentice
may elect to focus on all of the components of the
program, or only on those which the
apprentice feels is needed in their stage of
professional development.
Components of Apprenticeship Program
- Anatomy and physiology as it pertains to motion in
both humans and/or equines.
- Problems in motion and their potential causes.
- Accurate application of Meagher method of
sportsmassage.
- Aquisition of observation skills regarding the
movement of a horse or human and acquiring
the ability to determine where the client may be
tight and how that tightness
relates to performance.
- Conditioning and strengthening program for clients
in order to improve their overall capacity
for their required performance work.
- Listening to an equine trainer, rider, or a human
client's concerns of limitations in movement
and then knowing where to work for improvements.
- Body mechanics and fitness program for the
therapist.
- The effects of tack, saddle, draw reins, lungeing,
etc. on muscular tightness and motion for
